Abbeville Hosts Their 2019 Christmas Stroll

The city of Abbeville officially kicked off their holiday shopping with the 2019 Christmas Stroll through their downtown area. The Bayou Blend Chorus and local schools kept crowds entertained all night long.
“It’s amazing to see the community come together for an event like this especially during the holidays,” says one attendee.
“We have a lot of festivals in here in Abbeville so this is just another added thing that brings people downtown,” adds event coordinator Charlene Becket.
You can do your holiday shopping anywhere but Charlene Becket wants people in Abbeville to shop local.
She says,”It brings people down town that don’t normally come downtown because we have many exciting things and it just attracts them and they will go into our restaurants and in our shops and look any maybe come back later and shop but they are checking things off their list.”
Even if folks don’t spend their money, there’s free entertainment and a chance to win some pretty expensive prizes.
“We have a huge gift basket giveaway and at the end of the night you come put it in the box and we draw for prizes.”
The stroll gives new businesses like Natalie Aribie’s a chance to get clients before she even opens her doors.
Aribie says, “…it’s something new we have coming to town so i’m just excited to get to know everyone around town and let them know that we are going to be open and bringing more business to Abbeville.”
And other entrepreneurs like Phyllis Berberich the opportunity to support Vermilion Parish.
“We are a very close community so we need to support each other so that we can continue growing and staying apart of this area,” says Berberich.
“In the economy we have now its key to have activities so you can get people into your downtown,” adds Becket.
