The Americans for Prosperity Foundation made a stop here in lafayette on their “Lift Up Louisiana” tour. The tour is focused on educating residents about criminal justice reform. Its goal is to make Louisiana a safer state. There were a number of criminal justice reform experts who contributed ideas while hearing from the community
“Until recently we were the incarceration capital of the country, but that wasn’t making us a safer state,” says John Kay, Louisiana Director for the Americans For Prosperity Foundation.
“Since reforms in 2017 our prison population has dropped, and as a result communities in Louisiana are safer. Re-arrests are down, re-incarceration is down.”
