Eunice, LA (KADN) — Andre Vige has been the girls track coach at Eunice, but the pandemic has him on a new path. On Sunday, coach Paul trosclair announced he was retiring because of medical concerns. Now Vige is an interim head football coach.
“It was a sad time because Coach Trosclair was so close to me,” Vige said. “But at the same time, I’m excited about the opportunity.”
This is his first job as a head football coach but he’s worked on staff at Eunice since 2009. Vige graduated from here in 1997. The players trust his judgment. Coach Trosclair’s son Trenon is the defensive backs coach.
“I’m ready,” Trenon said. “My dad always said you have to be able to make adjustments on your feet and that’s what we did as a staff. That’s the Bobcat way.”
“If it ain’t broke don’t fix it,” Vige said. “I learned alot under Coach Trosclair and we want a smooth transition in this process.”
Being the head man now comes with criticism, but you have to be ready to walk in Wal mart and answer every question about your third down play calls.
“That’s already started,” Vige said. “When you take the head coaching job that’s what comes with it. You hear people in the stands second-guessing what you do.
Vige’s is counting down to the first game. With 16 starters, back plus hard work, the expectations are spelled out in front of them.
