Bastrop Man Arrested for Vehicle Fire

Morehouse Parish – The State Fire Marshal’s Office (SFM) has arrested a Bastrop man for setting a woman’s car on fire while it was parked feet from an occupied home.
Brandon White, 19, was booked into the Morehouse Parish Jail on one count of Aggravated Arson.
In the early morning hours of Sunday, May 13, the Bastrop Fire Department responded to the 800 block of Gray Avenue for a report of a vehicle fire. Firefighters learned there had been at least five people inside of the home at the time of the fire. The home did suffer minimal smoke exposure, but all occupants were able to escape unharmed.
After an assessment of the scene and obtaining multiple witness statements about the incident, SFM investigators determined the vehicle fire was intentionally set and White was identified as the suspect. Those witness statements indicated White set the vehicle on fire following an argument with the car’s owner over property he believed she had stolen from him.
On May 18, a warrant was obtained for White’s arrest and SFM deputies then began efforts to locate him. Thanks to a tip from the public, White was found. However, when deputies attempted to interact with him, White armed himself with a knife and fled on foot. During the pursuit, White discarded the knife and surrendered without incident.
White was then booked in connection with the case.
