BEDRE’S GOAL LEADS CAJUNS TO OVERTIME WIN AT SHSU, 2-1
HUNTSVILLE, Texas – Freshman Karleen Bedre scored a golden goal in the 103rd minute and the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns women’s soccer team claimed its third consecutive victory with a 2-1 decision over Sam Houston State on Sunday at Pritchett Field.
Una Einarsdottir added a first-half goal for Louisiana (3-2-1) while Mackenzie Lee notched five saves in goal for the Ragin’ Cajuns and was credited with the game-winning assist.
Bedre, who added an assist, recorded her first career game-winner for Louisiana when she took a kick from Lee and scored her third goal of the season on a header past SHSU goalkeeper Abby DeLozier.
Louisiana took a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute of play when Einarsdottir took a volley off the foot of Bedre and scored past DeLozier in the lower left corner of the net.
SHSU (1-4-0) added an equalizer in the 69th minute when Kenzie Arrington took a shot from the top of the box and scored past Lee in the top right corner of the net and tied the match at 1-1.
The Ragin’ Cajuns held an 11-10 advantage in shot attempts and a 6-1 edge in corner kicks against the Bearkats. Bedre took three of Louisiana’s 11 attempts with Savanna Young and Telly Vunipola taking a pair of shots each.
DeLozier led SHSU with six saves while Lexi Primacio and Alyssa Austin each took a pair of shots.
Louisiana will return home to face Nicholls State on Wednesday (Sept. 11) at the Ragin’ Cajuns Soccer/Track Complex. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. Admission to all home soccer matches is free.
