Breaux Bridge Seafood Processor Settles With DEQ for $16.5K

A catfish processing plant outside Breaux Bridge has agreed to a $16,500 settlement with the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality related to what the DEQ alleged were illegal discharges into a coulee that feeds into Bayou Portage.

In its settlement with the DEQ, Guidry’s Catfish “denies it committed any violations or that it is liable for any fines, forfeitures and/or penalties,” according to the settlement.

The alleged violations happened in 2015. According to DEQ documents, Guidry’s Catfish “failed to properly operate and maintain its wastewater treatment plant…” In all, the DEQ alleged six violations related to the company’s discharge of wastewater from its fish-processing operation.
