Broussard Police Investigating Single Vehicle Fatal Crash

BROUSSARD – Broussard Police Department is investigating a single vehicle fatal crash.

According to BPD the crash happened approximately 3:25 a.m. this morning in the the 600 block of West Main Street, where the driver was reported unresponsive.

Upon arrival, officers observed a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado overturned on its roof in the middle of the roadway with the driver still inside. The coroner’s office arrived on the scene and pronounced the driver, 56-year-old, John Latta of Lafayette dead.

The preliminary investigation suggest the vehicle was traveling west on West Main St. when for unknown reasons, the vehicle left the roadway to the right and struck a tree. After initial impact with the tree the vehicle flipped landing on its roof and came to rest in the middle of the roadway.

Latta was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead on the scene. Toxicology results are pending to determine alcohol usage if any.
