Community members in Lafayette are making a clarion call for peace around the region. For the second year in a row, Community Activist Roland Lewis with the Kongolife music group spearheaded the efforts. Last year, the walk came on the heels of the shootings of Alton Sterling and the police officers in Baton Rouge. Lewis’ speech went viral on social media around Acadiana. As the summer months continue and crime rises around the area, his message is still the same.
“We can take both sides and bring them together, talk about the problems, see what solutions we can do with it, and what doesn’t work, we just keep trying until we find solutions. That’s just my simple peace treament,” said Lewis.
This is not the group’s only event of the year. Just a few months ago, the group teamed up with UL to donate and deliver water to St. Joseph, Louisiana.
