“In the end honestly, Dr. Aguillard, Mrs. Samec and the school board really did take the time to listen,” said Melanie Brevis, Magnet Academy Parent.
October was a roller coaster of a month for parents with students in the Magnet Academies. LPSS was planning on making big changes but gave parents little notice.
“It was a lot,” said Brevis.
Parents rallied together to express their concerns. They ultimately felt their voices were heard after few changes were implemented in the end.
“I think most of us would have liked to have seen decisions being made longer term,” said Brevis.
Due to the modifications that were made to the program, along with updates to the website, LPSS did recently make some minor changes to the online application process.
“In situations where parents have to provide proof of sibling relationships, the application will pause so that the parent then has to bring a copy of the child’s birth certificate to the academy office,” said Dr. Aguillard, LPSS Superintendent.
Another notable change, the online application opening is delayed. It is anticipated to open on Monday, December 11th at 10AM.
