Domestic complaints have dropped in St. Martinville, according to the St. Martinville Police Chief, Ricky Martin. He says, “around the Valentine’s holiday, we hadn’t had any in the past couple weeks.”
Chief Martin also says the rates have decreased even before Valentine’s Day.
“For some reason, in the past few months, we’ve had a dramatic increase in domestic violence or domestic— complaints anyway.”
But in any case, regardless of occasion, Chief Martin says officers are prepared to deescalate the situation.
“The main thing is, once you arrive, separate the two that are arguing and once you do that, it’s just a matter of talking to each one of them or any witnesses to find out what happened,” Chief Martin explains.
