Just over two weeks ago, Jada Jones(20) spent 36 hours trapped inside of her car after a wreck in Port Allen that claimed the life of her best friend, Brittany Guillory(22).
Jada just recently returned home from the hospital.
“I am blessed. I am truly blessed, but I really wish I could’ve came home to my friend,” said Jones.
Jones and Brittany had been friends since 2013. “Brittany taught me things that I didn’t know. I taught her things that she didn’t know. Brittany was forever my hype man, now she’s forever my angel.” Jones said they were heading home from a night out when she missed a curve along North Line Road in Port Allen. The car went airborne at least 20 feet before hitting a tree and overturning in a ravine, “”This mark is not from a tree, but from Brittany saving my life and not letting go of me.”
Jones said her driver-side door came off, but Brittany grabbed her and ultimately saved her from flying out of the car,”She did not let go of my arm. She didn’t. The same arm that got stuck when we landed, she pulled me back in and didn’t let go of me. She saved my life.” She said Brittany was even able to call 911 for help, but shortly after with heavy rainfall Brittany suffered two seizures as water rose in the car, “That was one of the toughest battles we could have ever went through together, but I walked out alive and sadly she couldn’t win that battle.”
The West Baton Rouge Coroner’s Office report stated Brittany died due to asphyxiation due to drowning. Brittany’s mom, Marelda Guillory, said the seizures stemmed from a wreck in 2011 where Brittany saved another friend’s life, “At the time, they were 15 years-old, both of the girls. She pushed her out of the way and she literally took the lick of the Expedition from in her back and went over the powerline.” Guillory was not surprised by her daughter’s last act of heroism, “My heart goes out to her that she was there through all of these last minutes, seconds of my daughter living and to hear that they both fought for one another that is just amazing.”
Jones and Guillory said they will miss Brittany’s smile and big heart most of all, “It’s really hard but at the same time I still have my Jada to tell me all of the stories”.
“Brittany was an amazing person,” said Jones.
