LAFAYETTE – “We didn’t feel like that many people took advantage of the shuttle,” says V.P. of Programming for Festivals Acadiens, Pat Mould.
In years past, you could hop on a shuttle from Cajun Field and it would bring you straight to the annual Cajun music and heritage festival in Girard Park.
There are no shuttles this year, mostly because of the chaos that is UL homecoming. But Mould doesn’t believe the buses will be missed.
“We look at everybody who comes to the festival as a guest and so we’re trying to figure out what’s the best service we can provide for our guests that come to the festival,” explains Mould, “So we’re really in the analyzing process as far as the shuttle is concerned and whether it serves a purpose”
For a $10 fee, you can park across the street at the Girard Park Circle parking garage. Just know that these toll machines only take debit and credit cards.
“Also there’s a tremendous amount of parking around campus in the oil center,” adds Mould, “Be mindful of where you park, obviously. But we don’t think parking is gonna be an issue.”
Also new this year is a parking phone app, which you’ll be able to find through the festival’s miscellaneous social media accounts and website, that can make trying to find a spot a little easier.
“You’re gonna be able to download and it’s gonna tell you what lots fill up,” says the longtime Festivals Acadiens official, “So you can avoid going to that lot and try to find another lot.”
So according to Mould and the rest of the Festivals Acadiens et Creoles crew, parking should be the least of your worries this festival weekend.
Says a confident Mould, “Parking is not gonna be a problem. Just come on down and have a good time.”
