A fire at the Baldwin Police Department’s headquarters Monday afternoon left an inmate at the city’s jail injured.
According to an Acadian Ambulance spokesman, the inmate was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries after the blaze.
According to Baldwin police chief Harry Smith Jr., the damage from the fire is minimal, but smoke and water damage will force the department to find a new temporary home.
Baldwin Mayor Donna Lancesline, however, told another media outlet that the building was “gutted” and “a total loss.”
The cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
