Democrats reject Republican proposal that would end the government shutdown by offering limited protections to “dreamers” brought into the U.S. illegally as children in exchange for border wall funding. NBC’s Tracie Potts reports.
(NBC News) Senate Republicans have released a 1,000-page bill they plan to vote on this week based on President Trump’s latest offer to end the shutdown and provide funding for a border wall.
Democrats have already rejected the plan.
“We want the symbol of America to remain the Statue of Liberty. Freedom, equality, not a divisive wall,” said Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.
Without seven Democrats on board, President Trump’s plan to offer temporary protection for a million dreamers and refugees in exchange for border wall funding is dead on arrival.
Meanwhile, furloughed workers are preparing to miss a second paycheck this Friday.
