Lafayette, LA- For weeks, Heymann Performing Arts Center’s Arts and Culture Manager Brian McGrath and Venue Administrator Dennis Skerrett have been diligently working with local dance companies to address the issues involved in providing a safe venue for the annual dance recitals traditionally hosted at the center.
The Heymann suspended operations on March 13 and administrators worked with businesses to postpone their events due to the COVID-19 public health emergency. We don’t yet know when the facility will resume operations or under what conditions.
In the interim, Heymann leadership is working with the administration determine the conditions under which these previously contracted events may take place in a safe manner. At minimum, there will be additional requirements for security, post-event sanitization, and social distancing protocols for these events that will add additional costs to event organizers. Event ticketing will be online only, with no box office ticket sales. Lafayette Consolidated Government will continue working with the sponsors of these events to address these complicating issues, including additional expenses.
With the first event scheduled to take place in late June, we expect to be able to navigate these concerns, but the details are not yet final at this time. Discussions of the new guidelines have already begun with event organizers.
