Rayne Chief of Police Carroll J. Stelly advised detectives with the Rayne Police Department, Crowley Police Department, Duson PD, Calcasieu Sheriff’s Department and Lafayette PD worked together to identify a suspect in the recent vehicle burglary spree that plagued businesses along I-10 from Sulphur to Baton Rouge.
On March 27, 2019, the Rayne Police Department obtained an arrest warrant for Daniel Deshawn White (22) of Houston for 2 counts of simple burglary. Judge David Smith placed a $250,000 bond on Daniel.
The Crowley Police Department is expected to obtain arrest warrants along with Lafayette PD and Calcasieu Sheriff’s Department, which has 39 vehicle burglaries attributed to this offender and his currently unknown co-conspirators. Detectives from the Rayne Police Department and Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Department are currently in Houston completing their investigation. Daniel is expected to be transported back to Acadiana tomorrow by detectives.
Daniel is currently in the Houston Jail pending extradition proceedings. Detectives will continue efforts to identify the remaining co-conspirators.
Chief Stelly said “This case is an excellent example of multiple law enforcement agencies working together to apprehend motivated and habitual criminals that come into our communities to victimize our citizens.”
