IN the BAG: Breaux Bridge Man Arrested in Case of Puppies Tossed Into Bayou

The St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office announced late Friday afternoon that an arrest has been made in connection with a bag of puppies tossed from a bridge into a bayou.

Gary James Goulas, 55 years old of Breaux Bridge, is facing eight counts of aggravated cruelty to animals.

A passing fisherman noticed the bag of black Labrador puppies soon after they were tossed off a bridge near Potato Shed Road in Henderson on Sunday, Feb. 16. The dogs survived the ordeal. The sheriff’s office on Thursday released a grainy surveillance image showing an older-model pickup truck believed to the suspect vehicle.

Goulas was booked into the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center and is awaiting a bond hearing.
