An Iota man is dead after an pickup truck hit him while passing other vehicles on an Acadia Parish road Thursday morning.
Anthony Leger, 31, of Iota sustained critical injuries and was transported to Acadia General Hospital in Crowley where he was later pronounced dead. .
According to a Louisiana State Police spokesman, the fatal crash happened just before 5:30 a.m. on Louisiana Highway 100, east of Louisiana Highway 3070.
Police say Hayden Adams, 18, of Crowley, was driving a 2001 Toyota Tacoma eastbound on LA 100. Leger was cycling eastbound in the westbound lane of the highway. While traveling east, Adams crossed into the westbound lane in a legal passing zone and began to pass eastbound vehicles. While in the process of passing a vehicle, Adams’ truck hit the bicycle which Leger was riding.
Adams was wearing a seat belt and was not injured. He voluntarily submitted to a chemical test and police determined he was not impaired. A standard toxicology sample was obtained from Leger and sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
This crash remains under investigation.
