Lafayette High “Iron Pride” Powerlifting Team is celebrating some pretty big victories!! For the first time in school history the “Iron Pride” has three athletes that have a chance to win Regionals and State. Two powerlifters from the “Iron Pride” took first place at the Iota Invitational with another coming in at 2nd place. Check out the results below!
JASON SAM (Senior)
*Outstanding Lightweight Male Lifter from the 114-165 weight classes (This means he was the strongest pound-for-pound lifter)
*1st place in the 114 weight class
***Squat: 370 lbs. (20 lbs. above the LHSAA West Regional Record)
***Bench: 215 lbs. (20 lbs. away from the LHSAA West Regional Record)
***Deadlift: 355 lbs. (375 lbs. is the LHSAA West Regional Record, and he almost pulled 380 lbs. on his 3rd attempt)
***Total: 940 lbs. (10 lbs. above the LHSAA West Regional Record)
*Jason Sam also signed with LCC for football to play tailback, and has a chance to win a Regional and State Championship in his first year ever competing in powerlifting, and break several records. This is exceptional, especially due to his small stature. I have coached many State Champions over the years, but he is the best I have coached so far. He is a great kid, and a special athlete with an unbelievable work ethic.
Tim Wilson (Sophomore)
*1st Place in the 181 weight class.
***Squat: 480 lbs.
***Bench: 265 lbs.
***Deadlift: 455 lbs.
***Total: 1200 lbs.
*Tim Wilson is a young, gifted athlete who will be a force as an outside linebacker on the football team, an in the sport of powerlifting for the next couple of years. Tim Wilson has a good chance of winning regionals and State as a Sophomore, which is exceptional in Class 5A (Division 1).
Sean Gautreaux (Senior)
*2nd Place in the Super Heavyweight Class (SHW)
***Squat: 605 lbs. (70 lbs. away from the LHSAA West Regional Record)
***Bench: 345 lbs.
***Deadlift: 565 lbs.
***Total: 1515 (65 lbs. away from the LHSAA West Regional Record)
*Sean Gautreaux signed to play OL/DL with LCC for football, and has a chance to break 2 Regional records, win regionals, and possibly win a State championship in his first year of competition in the sport of powerlifting. Sean competed “Raw” for squat and deadlift at this meet, which is why his performance is so impressive. When the lifting suit is added, I predict that he will squat 700 lbs. or more, which will put him shattering the LHSAA West Regional Squat and Total records! He is a natural powerhouse, and is a very athletic “big man” at a solid 302 lbs of body weight.
The rest of the “Iron Pride” lifters placed as follows:
*3rd place in 220 lb. weight class: Landon Charrier (Junior)
*4th place in 97 lb. weight class: Kolbi Beavers (Senior) (Girls)
*4th place in 242 lb. weight class: William Perry (Freshman)
*5th place in 132 lb. weight class: Ty’RoN Washington (Junior)
*6th place in 198 lb. weight class: Emma Mire (Junior) (Girls)
