The Lafayette Parish School Board is adjusting its budget after the House Education Committee shot down Governor John Bel Edwards’s proposal to provide an additional 39 million dollars for public schools.
School Board President Justin Centanni explained they called this meeting because they feared the committee would do this.
The move reduced their budget by 1.6 million dollars.
“What we had planned on doing was using that increase in MFP as a savings account to replace Lafayette High School, Prairie Elementary School and Carencro Heights Elementary so we just reduced that money that we were going to put into that line item than if any increase does happen then we will put that money into the line item for those three schools.” explained Centanni.
The school board budget will be available for public review on April 26th-May 8th.
They will vote to adopt it on May 8th.
