Libraries ROCK! Children up to 12 years old can join our Children’s Summer Reading Program beginning Monday, May 14 at any Lafayette Public Library location or online. There will be loads of free programs like storytelling, crafts, music, puppetry, and more.
Children can log their reading minutes on an official reading record from their library or online. The reading record has 50 reading circles that each represent 10 minutes of reading. For instance, if the child reads for 30 minutes, he or she may color in three reading circles. Younger children may participate by counting the minutes that someone reads to them. When children have read (or listened to) a total of 500 minutes, they will earn the Summer Reading Prize Pack! Alternately, children can also earn a Prize Pack by reading 400 minutes and completing at least 2 activities.
To Win a Prize Pack*:
– Read 500 Minutes
– OR Read 400 Minutes and Complete 2 Activities
- Tote Bag
- Inflatable Guitar
- Entry for Grand Prize: Bicycle
*All prizes are available while supplies last.
Reminders: For minutes to count toward an award, you may read (or listen to) books, magazines, graphic novels or newspapers on your reading level. You may record minutes read to a non-reader. You may not receive awards on the day you join.
