Lafayette Consolidated Government says it’s catching up on a backlog of work- clearing ditches, drainage channels, and coulees over the last year and a half.
The Advocate reports that 200 miles of ditches, 26 channels, and 370 miles of coulees have been cleaned.
“… the drainage channels were designated to be cleaned and snagged which is the removal of access vegetation. By the end of the year we project 39 out of the 77 original channels will be completed at a length of over 57 miles,” said Frederick Trahan, Lafayette Consolidated Government Civil Engineering Supervisor.
LCG has been funding the work through 9-million dollars made available when voters elected to rededicate public health funds back in 2017.
