The Louisiana Office of Alcohol and Noise Control has snuffed out CBD sales, at least for the time being.
The office reminded vendors recently that Louisiana law prohibits the sale of any products with even trace amounts of THC, the active ingredient in cannabis that gives the user a high feeling. Following the legalization of medical marijuana in the state last year, merchants across Louisiana rushed to offer products containing CBD. Typically extracted from hemp, a cousin of the marijuana plant.
CBD is being sold across the state and here in the hub city as offering the benefits of medical marijuana, although the jury is still out on whether it offers any actual scientific benefits.
The state now warning merchants that they’ll be ticketed if found to have CBD products on their shelves and they should clear their premises of the products.
