A joint operation between New Iberia Police and the Lafayette Police SWAT team resulted in the arrest of New Iberia man on an attempted murder charge Tuesday.
Shawn Dugan, 33, was arrested on active warrants for attempted first-degree murder, armed robbery and narcotics charges stemming from a shooting in Delcambre.
According to a NIPD spokesman, the department’s narcotics section began investigating information received regarding Dugan’s whereabouts. Agents gathered enough information for a search warrant for Dugan’s residence in the 1200 block of Lombard Street.
The LPD SWAT team was asked to assist with entry into the residence until police learned small children were present inside. Instead police called out to Dugan, who surrendered.
Agents recovered firearms, including one stolen weapon, narcotics, and approximately $10,000 in cash. Agents also found three children, all under the age of 10, inside the residence.
NIPD’s Investigations Section, Juvenile Section, and Patrol Division also assisted with the investigation.
