The newly formed New Iberia Police Department has a few more loose ends to tie up before they hit the streets in two weeks.
“This has never been done.” said Chief Todd D’Albor.
Since December, Chief D’Albor, has been establishing department guidelines, hiring staff, bringing a new fleet as well as other necessary equipment.
He adds that nearly all of the officers will be coming in next week.
“We going to issue all the equipment to each officer and then we will start our in-service. For a two week period, we’re going to have all of employees here and we are going to conduct in-service training. We are going to make sure we stay-along the post standards.” he explained.
Chief D’Albor has also out been in the community with a few of his captains to gain the trust of the people.
One of them is captain Cory Porter who will over see the criminal investigations division.
“We have no case load so we are going to ride around the community, introduce ourselves and let the community that we are here to help them.” said Porter.
Like porter, Chief D’Albor says his officers will bring a wealth of experience to the position.
Other than that, the only thing to do is test the communication lines at the 911 center to ensure a smooth transition.
“There will be bumps in the road. We can expect those things but we have a group a people coming to work for us that are truly committed to be a part of something very special.” said Chief D’Albor.
The New Iberia Police Department plans to hit the ground running July 1st at 6am.
At that point, you can reach them call at 337-369-2306.
