OPD: Traffic Stop Leads to Firearm Arrest

Opelousas – On February 14, 2020 at approximately 10:45 P.M.  a patrol officer with the Opelousas Police Department initiated a traffic stop for illegal window tint near the intersection of Railroad Ave. and Landry St. During the course of the traffic stop the officer observed a firearm get tossed from the vehicle. After the vehicle was stopped the ensuing investigation resulted in the driver being issued a citation for illegal window tint, and an occupant identified as Mr. Peter Jones being arrested for illegal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Officers seized a  .40 caliber pistol. Mr.  Peter Jones, age 25, of Opelousas,  was booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail for a felon in possession of a firearm. Opelousas Police are aggressively trying to remove illegal weapons from the streets, to attempt and curb the associated gun violence.
