Opelousas Marshal, Paul Mouton answered his phone Tuesday and was caught off guard by what came from the other end.
“I received a call last Tuesday morning from (Portter’s) wife; she said that Potter had beat her up” says Mouton. After responding to the call immediately, he found Potter’s wife, “crying, and she had marks all over her face.”
Mouton called St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s office to take over the investigation. He would say that Potter is “a really good man. He’s a really good guy. A good deputy.” Mouton says all members of his department are like family, and the investigation “kinda hurt us for what went on.”
NEWS15 spoke with St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s office Deputy Chief, Eddie Thibodeaux, who said their office has a zero tolerance policy for domestic abuse. Following a comment on the Sheriff’s Department Facebook post about the arrest, they responded, in part, by saying,
