Opelousas Man Arrested for Possession of Narcotics

Opelousas, LA- The Opelousas Police Department’s Special Operations unit were following up on information about reported narcotics activity in the 1100blk. of Newman St. they arrested Mr. Troy Butler after he was found to be in possession of a large amount of synthetic marijuana and a .40 cal. Pistol. Mr. Butler had previously been convicted of felony crimes that made it illegal for him to be in possession of a firearm. There were also (2) minor children in the presence of Mr. Butler when illegal narcotics were found in his possession. During the booking process of Mr. Butler more illegal narcotics were found concealed on his person. Butler was booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail for the following charges:

1.Possession w/ Intent to Distribute Schedule I Drugs (Synthetic Marijuana)

 2. Felon in possession of a firearm

3. Illegal use of a Firearm in the presence of a CDS

 4. Illegal use of a CDS in the presence of persons under 17 years of age

 5. Introducing contraband into a Penal Institution

   Mr. Butler had been arrested for similar charges in May 2019 by the Opelousas Police Department.
