Raiders Rely on Sisterhood

Opelousas, LA (KADN) — 19 years ago former Lady Raider Nicole Manuel made it to the third round of the playoffs and now she is continuing the winning legacy. She’s the Northwest Girls head basketball coach. Manuel has been coaching these eleven ladies since middle school.

“Alot of girls basketball doesn’t get as much chemistry as the boys do,” Coach Manuel said. “So we knew we needed to start them young and then build on that.”

These Raiders have been playing together since elementary school. The sisterhood doesn’t stop with them. All the coaches played together at Northwest as well.

“That makes us better because we know they did it so we can do it,” Jala Thierry said.

“They know we treating them as if they were our own kids,” Coach Manuel said. “So they know we are ready to go through the joyous of the occasions and tough times all together. That way they would go through a wall for us.”

The chemistry is so close they know where a teammate is going to be before they even talk about it.

“Because sometimes they’ll make that pass almost without looking at them,” Coach Manuel said. “They know that’s where they at. they can give it to this girl and they can be able to do this. ”
