Rena Dr. house fire ruled an arson

At 8:41 p.m. last (Tuesday, August 14th) night, Lafayette firefighters responded to 402 Rena Drive for a reported residential fire. The fire was called in by several witnesses passing in front of the dwelling at the intersection of Rena and Ayershire Drive. When firefighters arrived on scene, the rear of the dwelling was fully involved. The flames damaged a transformer causing a power outage in neighboring homes. Emergency crews conducted a preliminary search of the dwelling to check for possible occupants. The occupants of the dwelling were not home. Firefighters battled the blaze for approximately twenty-five minutes before getting it under control. The home sustained heavy fire damage.

Investigators determined the fire originated under the carport of the dwelling. Fire investigators ruled that the fire was intentionally set. Information was obtained that a domestic related incident transpired at the home earlier that evening. The suspect, Dana St. Amant, girlfriend of the occupant, was arrested for allegedly setting the house on fire. She was charged with Simple Arson and booked into Lafayette Parish Correctional Center.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information, please contact Lafayette Fire Department at 291-8716.
