Warm, Gulf air is setting the stage for severe weather across Acadiana late tonight and into Saturday morning. For Friday, we’ll see a warm and humid day with temperatures climbing into the upper 70s this afternoon. This will be near record warmth, with the record being 79°. Winds will be very strong out of the south at 15 to 20 miles per hour, gusting over 30 at times. A wind advisory will remain in place through 6 a.m. Saturday for these strong winds. A few showers may form later in the day, but the storms will hold off until after sunset. Look for a mostly dry evening with temperatures holding steady around 70°. Thunderstorm chances increase significantly after midnight. This is when the severe threat also ramps up. Any thunderstorm that develops ahead of the main line of storms in Texas will have the possibility of producing tornadoes. A line of strong thunderstorms moves into Acadiana starting around 3 a.m. Along this line, damaging winds and tornadoes will be possible. A level 3 of 5 (Enhanced) risk of severe weather has been outlined for portions of Acadiana as this line moves through. The worst of the weather will pass by 9 a.m. Saturday.
Today: Warm and windy. Wind gusts will exceed 30 mph at times. A few passing showers are possible. High: 78°
Tonight: Storms late. Some of these storms may contain damaging winds and tornadoes. Low: 66°
Saturday: Severe weather expected in the morning. Damaging winds and tornadoes are possible. Cooler and drier in the afternoon. High: 70°

Any rain leftover Saturday morning will be gone by Noon and we’ll start to see some breaks in cloud cover in the afternoon. Temperatures will fall through the rest of the day. Drier and cooler air spills into the area overnight with temperatures falling into the upper 30s and lower 40s to start Sunday morning off. We’ll see sun and clouds through the day Sunday and temperatures will reach the low-to-mid 60s. A quick warm-up comes to start off the workweek with temperatures back around 70 Monday afternoon. Shower and storm chances return as well. A warm front lifts out of the Gulf and brings in the warm, humid air back to the area through midweek. Temperatures Tuesday and Wednesday will be in the mid 70s. A cold front looks to move in late week.
