ST. LANDRY PARISH – Father Michael Guidry, who earlier this month was accused of sexual abuse of a minor, has turned himself in to the St. Landry parish jail, following an investigation by the St. Landry Sheriff’s Office and the Diocese of Lafayette.
Guidry…The pastor of St. Peter church in the small community of Morrow, as well as Resurrection Chapel in Whiteville, was charged with molestation of a juvenile or a person with a physical or mental disability and with contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Guidry confessed to giving alcohol to the victim, who was sixteen at the time, and then sexually assaulting him, at Guidry’s home sometime around the year 2000.
Soon after Guidry turned himself in, Bishop Douglas J.Deshotel of the Diocese of Lafayette, who turned down interview requests, released a statement to all local news organizations, saying:
“Abuse violates a victim’s trust in an adult, a professional, am authority figure and especially members of the clergy…I pray that the victim finds himself healing in god’s love and the support of friends”
The Bishop also went on to mention the Safe Environment Program, that every employee and most volunteers must complete in order to work around children and young adults. The program was put into place across the nation after multiple incidents of child abuse within the catholic church came to light.
Guidry has since been released from jail on a $21,500 bond.
