UPDATED 5/14/18, 12 p.m. – The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office has announced that an all clear has been given after the gas leak that forced school closures and evacuations earlier today.
UPDATED 5/14/18, 10 a.m. – The Franklin Recreation Center on Hospital Boulevard in Franklin has been designated as a shelter for residents who have evacuated.
UPDATED 5/14/18, 9:30 a.m. – St. Mary Parish School Board will be dismiss Franklin High School at 10:00AM and Lagrange Elementary will dismiss at 10:30 a.m. Buses will transport students home at that time. All other schools in St. Mary Parish will operate as sche
ORIGINAL STORY 5/14/18, 8:25 a.m. – St.Mary Deputies are on scene on Yokely Road near the railroad tracks in the Baldwin area where a vehicle reportedly struck a pipeline. There is heavy fog of an unknown chemical inundating the area.
Deputies, fire personnel, and police are in the process of notifying residents and working to identify what the pipeline was carrying. Avoid the area! Residents We are in the early stages of what will be an ongoing situation. More details will be made available as new information is developed.
US 90 East and West are closed in the Franklin area as is Yokely Road at Northwest Boulevard.
