The heat has returned to Acadiana as temperatures look to soar into the upper 80s, well above average. We will see a few passing showers and thunderstorms to provide some heat relief in the afternoon, otherwise it will be hot and humid. Muggy conditions look to stick around overnight.
Today: Spotty PM storms. Hot and humid. High: 89°
Tonight: Any rain ends. Muggy. Low: 71°
Friday: Hot and humid with scattered showers and storms before 5 p.m., then breezy, cloudy, and cooler later in the evening. High: 85°
Friday will be a day of change as we start out with heat and more summer-like weather before a cold front moves through in the afternoon. Showers and storms will develop ahead of the front, but they will be scattered across the area. The front looks to move through between 3 and 6 p.m., which will bring in cooler weather for Friday night football games. Cooler, breezy conditions will stay with us through the overnight period and Saturday morning lows will be in the 50s. Pesky low-level clouds will hang around most of the day Saturday, keeping temperatures well below normal in the low 70s. Sunday will start off cool in the mid 50s before temperatures warm to near 80. Return flow off the Gulf picks up Sunday afternoon, bringing in muggy air back to Acadiana. Next week, temperatures will be back into the 80s with scattered chances of rain each day through mid-week before another front moves in around Thursday. In the tropics, the same three areas that we have been following are still being watched by the National Hurricane Center, but chances for development are fading quickly and all are moving out over open Atlantic waters.
