Investigators with the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office have arrested three teens following an investigation regarding two online marketplace related armed robberies that occurred in the Cecilia area on Aug. 6 and Aug 8.
According to SMPSO Public Information Officer Ginny Higgins, on Aug. 6, an individual was lured to the vicinity of Roy J. Melancon Road in Cecilia after the suspects showed interest in buying an item posted for sale on the “Letgo” app. According to Higgins, the three suspects subsequently robbed the individual and his passenger.
The second robbery occurred two days later when an individual was lured to Roy J. Melancon Road where, once again, the suspects showed interest in purchasing an item posted for sale on the “OfferUp” app. Higgins said the three suspects robbed the individual and his two passengers.
In both robberies, a firearm was used. In the robbery on Aug. 8, one of the suspects tased one of the victims.
On Aug. 10, Vonee Gordon Jr., 17, Breaux Bridge, was arrested and charged with five counts of armed robbery and one count of aggravated battery. On Aug. 11, Kendre Batiste, 17, Breaux Bridge, was arrested on five counts of armed robbery.
A third individual, a juvenile male, 15, was also arrested this afternoon and booked into the Lafayette Parish Juvenile Detention Center on five counts of armed Robbery.
Following their arrests, both Gordon and Batiste were booked in to the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center.
Bond has been set at $200,000 Gordon. Bond has not yet been set on Batiste. Both subjects remain incarcerated in the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center.
Higgins said that the increased use of phone apps and electronic devices to buy and sell merchandise increases the potential for buyers and sellers to be placed in a harmful situation when conducting transactions.
