St. Martinville, LA (KADN)– After missing the playoffs for the first time in 20 years, the St. Martinville Tigers boys basketball team is back on track this season. The young team is learning how to win. So far, the Tigers are 21-5.
“Stay focused and keep playing together,” Junior Guard Andrew Savoy said. “Come to practice everyday ready to work hard and listen to what Coach Jones has to tell us.”
This season legendary Coach Darryl Mitchell retired and his assistant coach Imaru Jones took over.
“It means everything to me. Everything,” Coach Jones said. “When I played it has given me the opportunity to right some of those wrongs.”
Coach Jones wants to bring back the winning tradition from the 90s when the Tigers made nonstop threes and made the Top 28.
“He talked to us alot about what they had going on in the past and how they beat teams and he’s trying to get the tradition back to beat teams and winning,” Savoy said.
“With these kids you can tell them stories, but they have to see it,” Coach Jones said. “They have to go through it trials and error.”
