UPDATE: Man turns self in to police after St. Martin Parish hit-and-run fatality

UPDATED 12/10/17, 6:30 p.m. — A man turned himself in to police Sunday afternoon after a description of his vehicle was released in relation to a hit-and-run crash that morning.

Michael John, 34, of Breaux Bridge, contacted Louisiana State Police Troop I and said he was the driver of the vehicle involved in the crash.  Investigators questioned John and shortly thereafter secured an arrest warrant for felony hit and run.

John was booked at the St. Martin Parish Jail.  This case remains an active investigation.

ORIGINAL STORY, 12/10/17, 12:30 p.m. — Louisiana State Police are looking for the driver of Hummer SUV as a possible person of interest in  a hit-and-run crash that left a Lafayette woman dead in St. Martin Parish Sunday morning.

Shortly before 6 a.m., LSP Troop I was notified of a fatality involving a pedestrian on LA 92-1 near Fontelieu Road outside Cade. The crash claimed the life of 51-year-old Dorine Johnnie of Lafayette.

An LSP spokesman said the preliminary investigation revealed that an unknown vehicle was traveling east on LA 92-1. Troopers located evidence at the scene indicating Johnnie was struck in the eastbound lane.

Debris located during the investigation indicates the suspect vehicle may be a white 2003-2009 Hummer H2, as shown in the accompanying photo.

The passenger side cowl – end cap should be missing on the vehicle. There may also be other damage to the front and/or front right passenger side of the vehicle.
