Happy Sunday All! Time to keep a very close eye on the forecast over the next 24 hours.
An area of disturbed weather in the Western Caribbean continues to organize this evening. The National Hurricane Center is giving the disturbance an 80% chance to become Tropical Depression Three or Tropical Storm #Cindy within the next 48 hours (Bret likely to form east of the Lesser Antilles). Forecast models coming into better agreement with sizable impacts possible for us in Acadiana and South Louisiana. The primary threat will be heavy rainfall & flash flood potential, rather than strong wind speeds.
Due to the system’s large size & disorganized structure, Do not pay attention to where the landfall location will be, as impacts will extend hundreds of miles away from the system’s center.
Impacts in the form of breezy conditions & a few tropical squalls may begin in Acadiana as soon as Tuesday mid day. 4-6 inches of rain appears likely across Acadiana with localized 6-8 inch totals possible from Tuesday through Friday. Expect these forecast rain predictions to change within the next day or so as the overall forecast becomes more clear. Clear out your storm drains & pick up the loose objects around the yard! Stocking up on extra batteries, water, and a flashlight is a smart move as well for the entire hurricane season!
