Jefferson Davis Parish – A man from Iowa, Louisiana, has died as the result of injuries he received in a crash a few days ago.
Shortly after 8:30 p.m. on November 30, 2018, Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a single-vehicle crash on US Highway 90, west of Pousson Road in Jefferson Davis Parish. The initial investigation revealed 41-year-old Brandy Lynn Lucker of Iowa attempted to pass another vehicle when she lost control and traveled into a ditch. After entering the ditch, the 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser she was driving overturned several times causing Lucker and her passenger, 44-year-old Shane James Ardoin of Iowa, Louisiana, to be ejected.
Lucker sustained moderate injuries. Ardoin was transported from the scene with serious injuries. Neither was wearing a seat belt.
On the morning of December 6, 2018, Ardoin succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at an area hospital.
At the time of the crash, Lucker was charged with improper passing. Toxicology samples were obtained and have been submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation and additional charges are possible.
Louisiana state law requires vehicle occupants to be properly restrained in all seating positions, day or night. The decision not to wear a seat belt can have deadly consequences. Motorists are encouraged to make the smart choice and to always wear a seat belt.
Troop D has investigated 26 fatal crashes resulting in 26 deaths in 2018.
