Summer heat means summer fun, but what happens with your home when you’re not there? Security consultant, Kenny Klusman says: “Lock all (your) doors and windows.”
one Lafayette resident feels more comfortable and safe adding an alarm system to those locked door: “We always set the alarm on away. I’m good with basic. I’m comfortable with basic. When we leave… like I said… if the alarm goes off we’ll get a call right away” says Michelle Miller.
Klusman added even putting out “Yard signs or window decals” and having an alarm so “a signal (can be) sent to a monitoring station of some sort” is great when protecting your home while you’re away. If you want to go the extra mile, today’s technology will let you.
“It’s smart enough, the technology and the software, to go back and tell if it’s a person, place, vehicle, object or thing” says Trent Labry.
Homeowners should also consider the following when planning how to best protect their home before leaving for a vacation:
-Remove all hide-away keys outside the home.
-Remove all trash bins from curbside.
-Continue yard maintenance.
-Take care of mail and newspaper delivery.
-Check all outdoor lights are in working order.
– DO NOT post location or trip time on social media.
