YOUNGSVILLE – For the fourth year in a row, Youngsville police officers are taking part in the season of giving. No, not giving tickets, but gift cards to miscellaneous businesses in the city.
Says Police Chief Ricky Boudreaux, “This community gives to this department all year long, whether it be they bring by snacks, they come with just thank you’s for the job we do and all that and this is our way of giving back to them during the holiday time.”
Officers pull over people and reward them for good behavior, such as wearing a seat belt or coming to a complete stop. In doing this, they help make strong ties within the community.
Says Traffic Sgt. Pedro Alexander, “I’m a dad before I’m a cop. So I’m leaving my family to go and protect yours. And people, they don’t put that first. They put ‘cop’ first, and not a father or husband, ya know, family. They just look at is as a uniform. So yeah it does help being able to do this during the holidays.”
